China Iron and Steel Association expects China's steel exports to exceed 90 million tons in 2023
The reporter learned from the China Iron and Steel Association on January 3 that the association expects my country's steel exports to exceed 90 million tons in 2023, but steel companies also need to be alert to risks related to trade frictions.
The market research department of the association said that China's steel exports performed well in 2023, which was only lower than the export scale in 2014-2016 in history, with an import volume of about 7.6 million tons. However, the association also reminded that due to the expansion of export scale, five countries around the world have launched six trade remedy investigations on China's steel products in 2023. At the end of the year, Mexico announced that it would impose nearly 80% import tariffs on some Chinese steel products. Steel enterprises need to be alert to the risk of increased trade friction.
The association also stated that in late December 2023, the State Council's Tariff Commission issued a public announcement to adjust five steel product tariff sub-items, laying a good foundation for the promotion of precise policies for the import and export of steel products.
* New data show that in November 2023, China's exports of steel increased year-on-year, and imports of steel decreased year-on-year. In November 2023, my country exported 8.005 million tons of steel, an increase of 66000 tons from the previous month and a year-on-year increase of 2.415 million tons; in November 2023, my country imported 614000 tons of steel, a decrease of 54000 tons from the previous month and a year-on-year decrease of 138000 tons.
