"The 2025 China Iron and Steel Industry Social Responsibility Blue Book" Launched in Beijing

On October 24, at the ESG China Innovation Annual Conference 2025 held in Shougang Park, Beijing, the "China Steel Industry Social Responsibility Blue Book 2025" (hereinafter referred to as the "Blue Book") was officially released. This marks the fourth consecutive year that the China Iron and Steel Association has compiled and published the "Steel Industry Social Responsibility Blue Book."

Peng Huagang, Chairman of the China Enterprise Reform and Development Research Association and former member of the Party Committee and Secretary-General of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council; Liu Andong, Vice President of the China Iron and Steel Association; Zhu Guosen, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Deputy General Manager of Shougang Group; Su Changyong, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Iron and Steel Association; and Li Yongjun, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Metallurgical Industry Economic Development Research Center, attended the launch ceremony and jointly witnessed the official release of the "Blue Book." Liu Andong delivered a speech at the event.

It is reported that the "Blue Book" systematically summarizes the ESG practice achievements of the steel industry from 2024 to 2025, covering multiple dimensions such as green production, circular economy, and employee care. It delves into the intrinsic link between social responsibility concepts and industry development, while also focusing on critical issues like environment, climate, and supply chains. Through detailed questionnaire surveys and report analyses, the book provides a comprehensive overview of the steel industry's progress and effectiveness in practicing social responsibility.

"Standing at the new starting point of the '15th Five-Year Plan,' China's steel industry is firmly committed to pursuing a high-quality development path that not only preserves our green mountains and clear waters but also unlocks the true value of 'golden mountains and silver hills.' In his speech, Liu Andong highlighted the industry's growing awareness of social responsibility and the imperative of advancing ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) initiatives. 'We must make sustainability the foundation and embed responsibility deeply into our very being,' he emphasized. 'This isn’t just about transforming our industry—it’s a vibrant demonstration of humanity’s harmonious coexistence with nature.'"

"Liu Andong stated, 'The steel industry is actively fulfilling its social responsibilities—not as a standalone task confined to a single sector anymore, but as an essential role integral to the process of new-style industrialization and aligned with the nation's overarching strategic goals.' As a major global player in both steel production capacity and consumption, China's steel industry has set a benchmark for corporate social responsibility that carries significant global implications. It also serves as a critical component in enhancing the global competitiveness and reputation of 'Made in China.' He added that, amidst China’s new journey toward Chinese-style modernization, the country’s steel industry is making steady strides toward high-end, intelligent, and green development. This includes deepening efforts in pollution reduction and carbon emission cuts, continuously empowering rural revitalization, and embracing multi-dimensional innovation through open international cooperation. These initiatives are steadily fueling the steel industry’s commitment to serving the nation while simultaneously contributing to global development. For four consecutive years, the China Iron and Steel Association has compiled and released the 'Social Responsibility Blue Book of the Steel Industry,' which not only provides practical guidance for enterprises and decision-making references for government departments and financial institutions but also offers society at large a valuable window into the evolving landscape of today’s modern steel industry.'"

"The Blue Book carefully selects a batch of outstanding cases that are both replicable and scalable—ranging from green and low-carbon initiatives and technological innovation to rural revitalization and corporate governance. These cases comprehensively showcase the industry's actions and achievements, offering practical, replicable, and scalable models for future development," said Liu Andong. "We hope this Blue Book will serve as a practical guide for steel companies, provide valuable decision-making insights for government departments and financial institutions, and open up a window for all sectors of society to gain a deeper understanding of the modern steel industry."
